MHRA issues warning over haemodialysis bloodline

  • Comment

Nurses have been urged to check for leakage in one brand of haemodialysis bloodline.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency issued the warning for Fresenius Medical Care bloodline connectors, saying a material used to make them had been changed and this could make it difficult to connect to other manufacturers’ dialysers.

The MHRA advised staff to recheck the tightness of connection to a different manufacturer’s dialyser a few minutes after patient treatment has started, once the lines and dialyser have warmed up.

Fresenius Medical Care has pledged to introduce a modified connector in the New Year.
