Midlands nurses win travel scholarships

Two nurses from the West Midlands have each won a £1,700 travel scholarship to study their specialist areas in other parts of the world.

Two nurses from the West Midlands have each won a £1,700 travel scholarship to study their specialist areas in other parts of the world.

Rebecca Spencer, an advanced nurse practitioner at the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, will spend three weeks working alongside 'ER' nurses in the emergency department at New York's Downtown Hospital.

Tim Simmonds, clinical nurse specialist in acute pain at Walsall Manor Hospital NHS Trust, will travel to Australia to look at pain management when tackling obesity through surgery.

The nurse travel scholarship scheme is run by the West Midlands strategic health authority (SHA) and is funded by the Birmingham Hospital Saturday Fund Medical Charity and Welfare Trust.
