A diabetes team is offering a one-week course to help patients with type 1 diabetes gain more freedom over their eating habits.
Nurses at Birmingham East and North PCT have just been accredited to teach the Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating programme, showing patients how to alter insulin doses according to what they have eaten. Given by diabetes nurse consultant Jill Hill, it increases patients’ flexibility with what and when they eat. ‘People can learn how to make [their] own choices about their treatment and take control of their diabetes,’ said Ms Hill.
