MRSA infection decline stalls

  • Comment
Latest figures show that MRSA infections have increased slightly across the NHS, reversing a previously downward trend.

The latest figures on MRSA show 1,087 reported cases in England during the last quarter of 2007 – up by seven cases on the previous quarter.

But the Health Protection Agency said the figures indicated a ‘plateau’ and were not necessarily cause for alarm.

Latest Clostridium difficile figures show there were just under 10,000 cases reported in patients under 65 between October and December 2007 – an 8% reduction from the previous quarter.

The Healthcare Commission last week began a major infection control inspection programme.
