Nervous patient praises nurse

  • Comment
An ophthalmology nurse in Manchester has been praised for going the extra mile in reassuring a patient about an impending cataract operation.

Andrea Lord (left), ophthalmic nurse practitioner in pre-assessment at Birch Hill Hospital in Rochdale, gave constant reassurance to 73-year-old John Tucker (right) in the run-up to his operation.

Needle-phobic Mr Tucker said he would not have gone ahead with the operation without Ms Lord’s support. 'I was petrified at the thought of having the operation. I kept phoning Andrea because I wanted to cancel it. Her nickname for me was "Nervous John".'
