A new director has been appointed at the National Nursing Research Unit (NNRU) at King’s College London.

Jill Maben has been appointed director of the NNRU at the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery at King’s, and will head up a new programme of work around health visiting to support ministers’ plans to create 4, 200 new health visitor roles by 2015.

Former director Peter Griffiths recently left the unit to take up a post at the University of Southampton.

Dr Maben, who is a qualified nurse, has held the posts of senior research fellow and deputy director of the NNRU since 2007. Prior to this, she was lecturer and post-doctoral fellow at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

The new heath visiting research programme will cover areas including: effectiveness, education, recruitment and skill mix and staff motivation.
