New urinary catheter e-learning programme launched by NHS Core Learning unit

The NHS Core Learning Unit have developed two e-learning modules for short-term urinary catheters in acute care and long-term catheters in the community.

The modules have been developed by staff at the Richard Wells Research Centre, in conjunction with Intuition Publishing and specialist practitioners in continence and infection control.

Each module is divided into four topics:

  • The risk of healthcare associated infections,

  • Selecting a catheter,

  • Inserting and managing a catheter,

  • Documentation, using care bundles and compliance.

Each module links the current evidence base for best practice with the tools available for auditing practice.

These CLU modules are free of charge for all NHS practitioners in England and can be accessed by clicking here
