New RCM general secretary takes post

  • Comment
Professor Cathy Warwick has taken up the post of general secretary of the Royal College of Midwives.

Prof Warwick follows in the footsteps of Dame Karlene Davis, who has now retired.

Formerly director of Women’s and Children’s Services and Director of Midwifery at King’s College Hospital Foundation Trust in London, Ms Davis has been a midwife for more than 30 years.

She said: ‘I am honoured and delighted to be doing this job. I will be working hard to help the Government and NHS Trusts to improve the working life of midwives and improve women’s experience of pregnancy and birth.

‘This means campaigning heavily for fair pay and better working conditions for midwives, and making sure that women have real choice, and high quality services built around their needs.’
