St Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney has appointed Jane Naismith as a nurse consultant, it has announced.
She has been appointed nurse consultant for the community palliative care team and will be one of two based at the hospice in East London.
“It is reassuring that St Joseph’s Hospice provides new and innovative ways of working”
She will lead a large team of clinical nurse specialists, working with district nurses and other health professionals caring for patients at home in City and Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Newham.
Prior to joining St Joseph’s, Ms Naismith worked for Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust at its Florence Nightingale Hospice.
Ms Naismith said: “I’m looking forward to working with an experienced and energetic community palliative care team and embracing the challenge of working in an inner city after many years in Buckinghamshire.
“St Joseph’s Hospice is very well respected and has been at the heart of a closely connected community for over 100 years,” she said.

She added: “With the challenges that the NHS is facing in providing end of life care, it is reassuring that St Joseph’s Hospice provides new and innovative ways of working to ensure that high quality care is there for those who need it most, wherever they choose to receive that care.”
Nigel Harding, chief executive of St Joseph’s Hospice, said: “We’re very pleased to have Jane working with us. Providing expert palliative care to people in the community is a vital part of what we do here and we firmly believe that people should have a choice in where they die.
“If they choose to die at home rather than at the hospice, then Jane and her team will put everything in place to support them to do this,” he added.
St Joseph’s Hospice was founded in 1905 by the Religious Sisters of Charity. It is an independent charity providing compassionate support and care primarily in the London Boroughs of Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets and the City of London.
