The Council of Deans of Health has announced the election of Professor Brian Webster-Henderson as its chair-elect.
He is a professor of nursing at Edinburgh Napier University and also the institution’s dean of learning and teaching. He was previously a mental health nurse specialising in alcohol and drug addiction.
“This is a challenging time in both the higher education and healthcare sectors”
Elected by the council’s membership, Professor Webster-Henderson three-year term as chair will begin in June 2017, after serving as chair-elect for six months.
He is currently vice-chair of the council and convener of the Council of Deans of Health Scotland.
As chair, Professor Webster-Henderson will succeed current incumbent Professor Dame Jessica Corner.
Speaking after his election, he said: “I feel honoured and delighted to have been elected.
“This is a challenging time in both the higher education and healthcare sectors and I look forward to working with members across the four nations in addressing these agendas,” he said.
Professor Corner added: “Having worked with Brian in his role as Vice-Chair, I believe he will be an excellent chair of council.
“He brings significant experience of both the Scottish and English higher education systems and insight into the differences and challenges facing the Council as a four nation organisation,” she said.
