Reported sightings being investigated by police in missing nursing student case

Police say they are currently following up around 20 reports from the public of potential sightings of the missing Bristol student nurse Anna Lewis.

Some of the new sightings have been in the Lydney area of Gloucestershire, said Avon and Somerset Constabulary in an update on the case today.

It was in the process of “actively following up” the reported sightings, said officers in a statement.

On Monday, the police issued CCTV images showing the last confirmed sighting of Ms Lewis, who was seen leaving Bristol’s Southmead Hospital at 12.15am on Thursday 13 April.

Ms Lewis, 27, lives in the Fishponds area of Bristol and is studying at the University of the West of England.

“We believe she left the hospital grounds at just before 1pm and headed towards Avon Way and Kingsholm Road,” said police today in a new statement.

Ms Lewis is described as white, 5ft 5ins to 5ft 6ins tall, of slim build, with brown eyes and long dark brown hair, which she tends to wear in a low ponytail.

The clothing she tends to wear includes jeans or walking trousers, hiking boots, and loose jumpers, said the police.

Detective inspector Roger Doxsey, who is leading the investigation, said: “We’re grateful to everyone who has phoned in with information and potential sightings so far.

“We’ll follow up every line of enquiry including the potential sightings in Gloucestershire,” he said.

“Specialist officers will continue with targeted searches today in the north and central Bristol area and we’re also continuing to collect and review CCTV footage, which may show where Anna went after leaving Southmead Hospital on Thursday 13 April,” he noted.

“As we’ve previously said, Anna has gone on camping trips on her own without telling anyone before and she also has experience of spending nights sleeping outside, including in wooded areas,” said DI Roxsey.

He added: “We’re keeping Anna’s parents informed of our progress and offering them any support they may need at this very concerning time.”
