Holding her current post since 2002, Prof Cleaver moved into teaching in 1987 after a career in emergency children’s nursing.

Reflecting on her promotion, Prof Cleaver said: “I’m obviously delighted with this as a personal achievement, but more importantly because it’s a great reflection on the increasing recognition of nurse academics, the importance of nursing and how this is being valued and championed by the university.”

A registered nurse with clinical experience in HIV care, Prof Evans was previously a professional nursing advisor in sexual Health at the Royal College of Nursing and has also developed a nationwide e-learning course for nurses in sexual health.

“Our focus remains on teaching excellence and ensuring our students are equipped to provide excellent patient care”

David Evans

Prof Evans has received a variety of academic accolades. He became a National Teaching Fellow in 2014, was awarded an OBE for nursing and sexual health education in 2017 and become a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2018.

“Whilst there is significant change underway in terms of entry routes into nursing, our focus in Greenwich remains on teaching excellence and ensuring our students are equipped to provide excellent patient care when they leave us,” said Prof Evans.

He added: “I’m pleased that our hard work in this area has been recognised – Karen and I are part of a great team in the faculty of education and health.”

Prof Cleaver and Prof Evans’ promotions are due to the university’s desire to continue to advance their students and community by drawing their staff into new growth, which led to the restructuring of their academic framework.
