The first specialised early inflammatory back pain service in the UK has been launched at Whipps Cross University Hospital to improve diagnosis, treatment and management of the rheumatic condition Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS).
The service provides a screening assessment of patients with suspected inflammatory back pain who will have targeted treatment and management of their condition.
Many people with AS have symptoms for an average of 10 years before an accurate diagnosis is made. Consultant rheumatologist Dr Simon Donnelly said: “The benefits of early diagnosis and treatment can be life changing.”
