Drug-related deaths decrease in Scotland

The number of drug-related deaths in Scotland fell last year, latest figures show.

Figures from the Registrar General for Scotland showed 545 deaths were drug-related in 2009, down 5 per cent on the previous year.

But 2009 was still the second highest year for drug-related fatalities ever recorded in Scotland.

The data revealed 76 per cent of the drug-related deaths were men.
