Florence Nightingale commemorative rose launched to celebrate nursing

  • Comment

A commemorative rose has been developed to honour Florence Nightingale, the International Council of Nurses announced today.

The ruffled, pure white floribunda rose will be unveiled on International Nurses Day on May 12.

The rose, bred by Jackson & Perkins, was chosen by the Florence Nightingale International Foundation to celebrate its 75th anniversary.

A portion of the sales will go to the Girl Child Education Fund, which supports the education of the orphaned daughters of nurses in developing countries.

Hiroko Minami, the president of the International Council of Nurses, said: “ICN is delighted that Jackson & Perkins have developed this remarkable and dignified rose to commemorate Florence Nightingale and the critically important work of nurses everywhere.”
