Hyper-acute stroke unit doubles thrombolysis rate

A specialist NHS centre for treating stroke patients in London has more than doubled the rate of patients receiving thrombolysis in the area it covers.

The hyper-acute stroke unit at University College London Hospitals Foundation Trust opened in February.

Preliminary figures indicate that mortality rates have also reduced to a quarter of the national average for stroke - just six per cent compared to 27 per cent.

The unit is a collaboration between hospitals across north central London.
