Nurse appointed as trust chief executive

The Royal Bolton Hospital Foundation Trust has appointed Nursing Times editorial board member Lesley Doherty as its new chief executive.

Ms Doherty, formerly the trust’s director of nursing and performance improvement, has been acting chief executive since June.

She said she intended to maintain her frontline knowledge by continuing to work occasional nursing shifts.

Ms Doherty became nursing director in 2003 and has worked in the NHS for 33 years.

Trust chair Cliff Morris said: “Despite her senior managerial experience, she remains a nurse at heart. She is always enthusiastic, determined and tackles any challenge head on.”

  • congratulations on this dual role. we need more nursing, medical clinicians and other healthcare professionals in top managerial jobs and a reduction of non-clinical managers. I hope Ms Doherty will promote this.
