Nurse Kate crashes out of this year’s bake off

Kate Barmby, a respiratory nurse from Norfolk, last night became the latest contestant to leave this year’s Great British Bake Off, after failing to impress the judges with her batter creations.

The 37-year-old nurse made Christmas-themed Yorkshire puddings for her signature bake and rabbit-themed Spanish churros with dipping sauces for the showstopper round, as well as uniform lace pancakes in the technical.

She was among the 12 amateur bakers competing to win this year’s Great British Bake Off and became the fourth contestant to leave the show.

Speaking after her departure, Ms Barmby said: “I don’t think I’ve completely humiliated myself –there’s been some fantastic bakes in amongst some of the shocking ones.

“I’m not going to cry because it’s over – because I’m going to get to watch it now and see who finishes this journey,” she added.

Judge Paul Hollywood said: “Is Kate the weakest baker out of the group? No she isn’t. But this weekend, she was. That’s how Bake Off works.”
