The government has created a taskforce of health professionals to examine whether early intervention could prevent violence against women and girls.
It will identify the role of health services in identifying and supporting all female victims of violence and abuse and make recommendations to government on what action can be taken.
Goals will be to estimate the prevalence and cost to the NHS of all forms of violence against women and girls.
It will also review evidence of their health needs and the extent to which their needs are met by the NHS.
The taskforce will also review how the NHS works with other strategies such as multi-agency risk assessments and crime and disorder reduction partnerships.
