Suspended midwife investigated by police

  • Comment

A midwife suspended after colleagues raised concerns about her working practices is being investigated by police and health authorities, it has been revealed.

Bosses at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital said they were meeting with 22 families to explain why the investigation had been launched, but refused to disclose further details of the allegations against the woman, saying: “The information which can be released at this stage is limited because of the investigation but NHS Grampian is anxious to allay any concerns in the wider community.”

The spokesman added: “She has been referred to the NMC and suspended from practice by the Local Supervising Authority pending a full investigation.”

It is understood that the matter has been reported to Grampian Police, who are now investigating.

The maternity unit is one of the busiest in Scotland, with around 400 babies born there every month.
