Probiotic milk halves eczema risk in babies

  • Comment

Drinking milk containing added probiotics during pregnancy and breastfeeding can cut the incidence of eczema in babies by almost half, according to Norwegian research involving 415 women.

The mothers were randomised to either a probiotic or placebo from 36 weeks gestation till three months after birth. The study, published online in the British Journal of Dermatology, found drinking one glass of probiotic a day reduced the likelihood of eczema in the child by 40 per cent in their first two years of life.
