A new career development training programme aimed at recently qualified nurses who want to work in primary care will host double the number of participants than originally planned, following an “unprecedented level of interest” in the course.
Yorkshire-based training provider OneWorkforce was set to launch its new programme this autumn with 12 healthcare professionals taking part. But, following a high level of interest, the organisation said it was now planning to train a further 12 candidates starting in spring 2018.

The 24-month scheme is aimed at a range of workers – including nurses, emergency care staff, paramedics and pharmacists – and teaches management, leadership and clinical skills.
As well as newly qualified professionals, it is designed for those returning to practice or looking to change setting.
Participants will experience a variety of training methods such as classroom-based presentations, case-based discussions and the use of a reflective journal.
New models of care being developed by the NHS are also set to be explored during the course, including the use of multi-disciplinary teams in primary care.
A spokeswoman for OneWorkforce said the organisation had seen five times more applications to the programme, compared with other training courses it runs.

She said the majority of the applications for the new scheme were from nurses working in NHS trusts, community organisations or in specialist services.
While OneWorkforce will run the course independently, it has targeted trusts across Derbyshire, Leeds and Sheffield for recruitment.
Caroline Day, learning and development director at OneWorkforce, noted there was a “clear appetite” for the type of support the initiative was offering.
“We are very aware and have seen first-hand that having a highly skilled, confident and capable workforce is critical in today’s diverse healthcare market,” she said.
