Regulator issues cartoon reminder to help avoid lapsed nurse registrations

The Nursing and Midwifery Council has produced a short animated film to help remind nurses and midwives of the different ways they can pay their registration fee to avoid lapsing from the register.

The regulator noted that its campaign this month coincided with the peak time for nurses and midwives across the UK to renew their registration.

The animation, along with a series of posters and leaflets, can be found on the NMC website and are supported by the Royal College of Nursing, the Royal College of Midwives and Unison.

The NMC noted that nurses and midwives could either pay the full registration amount in one go, or spread the cost over four quarterly payments throughout the year.

“Nurses and midwives must pay their registration fee on time otherwise they will automatically be taken off the register and will be unable to practise as a nurse or midwife in the UK,” said the regulator.

“If this happens they will need to follow our readmission process to get back on to the register, this can take up to six weeks. They will not be allowed to practise as a nurse or midwife during this period,” it added.
