Water before meals promotes weight loss

Drinking two glasses of water before meals enables people to lose weight and control their appetite scientists have reported.

The study, from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia, covered 48 adults aged 55-75 of which half drank two cups of water before eating and half did not.

The whole group followed a low calorie diet for 12 weeks at the end of which the water drinkers had lost about 15.5 pounds compared to around 11 pounds amongst the non-water drinkers.

The study was presented at the national meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS).

  • Err, I think you must mean 236 mls, not two 'half cups' or 'eight ounces' of water.

Also '7.03 Kg compared with 4.98 Kg'.

Let's keep Nursing Times as a beacon of sanity and stick to the only system of weights and measures that makes sense.
