Prison nurses are viewed as either “brave or stupid” by staff in other sectors, according to a senior nurse who has called for more work to bust myths and promote the many positive aspects of this challenging yet rewarding role.
As a student nurse, I often feel powerless. I have no control over where my placements will be, I can’t make the NHS Business Services Authority reimburse my travel expenses any more quickly, and I have no ability to shift an essay deadline if I fancy a lazy weekend.

The NHS in England is unable to fill round 3,000 empty nurse posts despite the use of bank and agency staff, according to a report by a group of MPs, which has also raised concerns about the lack of robust national data on the shortage.
