  • Comment

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has appointed Shelley Dolan as its executive director of nursing and midwifery.

She replaces Geraldine Walters, who left King’s in June 2016. Paula Townsend, the trust’s deputy director of nursing, will provide interim cover until Ms Dolan takes up her new role in October.

She joins King’s from the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, where she has served as chief nurse for the past nine years.

Ms Dolan has over 30 years’ experience in acute healthcare, specialising in critical care and cancer nursing.

She also has extensive leadership experience and is chair of the London Chelsea Research Ethics Committee and nurse director of Health Education North West London.

In addition, she holds a PhD in the early diagnosis of sepsis in cancer patients.

Speaking of the appointment, King’s chief executive Nick Moberly said: “We are delighted that Shelley will be joining King’s.

“She has outstanding clinical credentials, and combines this with extensive operational and strategic experience,” he said.

“With Shelley’s wealth of skills and knowledge, she will provide strong professional leadership for our dedicated nurses and midwives and will be an excellent addition to the executive team,” he said. “We look forward to welcoming her to the Trust in October.”

Ms Dolan added: “I’m honoured to be joining King’s this autumn.

“I look forward to working with colleagues in the executive team, and with the nurses and midwives to further enhance patient care and experience,” she said.
