RCN issues recession guidance for struggling nurses

The RCN has issued advice on how nurses can cope with financial uncertainty during the recession.

The guidance, “Dealing with a drop in income”, gives advice on the financial implications of a reduction in working hours, ill health, loss of a job, cut backs on extra shifts and increased living costs.

Dr Peter Carter, of the RCN, said: “Unfortunately, financial uncertainty is something that many people are faced with at some point in their lives and in today’s tough economic climate these concerns are increasingly common. The RCN recognises how difficult these situations can be and has produced this leaflet to help our members through these tough times.  This practical guidance is intended to provide some reassurance for any nurses facing financial uncertainty for any reason. It is an invaluable guide for members facing short term concerns through to longer term difficulties.”
