NHS Careers has ‘positive impact’ on NHS workforce

  • Comment

Almost half of those who contact NHS Careers are likely to join the NHS workforce, latest survey results suggest.

According to the January poll of 234 people who contacted NHS Careers, 46% are taking steps to join the health service, with 15% already taking up posts.

The survey also revealed that 75% rated NHS Careers as good or excellent, and 44% said it had influenced their career decisions.

Alastair Henderson, joint director of NHS Employers, said: ‘These figures illustrate the impact NHS Careers has made to the NHS workforce. NHS Careers has evolved into a service that not only supports the short term needs of the health service but the workforce of the future.”

Clare Chapman, the director general of NHS Workforce, added: ‘NHS Careers will continue to be an important resource in letting job seekers and career changers know about the improvement we are making to our workforce.’

NHS Careers was launched in 1999 by the Department of Health to help fill nursing and midwifery vacancies. It now supports over 350 different careers in the NHS via a helpline, literature and websites.

NHS Careers now offers targeted programmes, such as Step into the NHS for 14-19 year olds and whatcanidowithmydegree.nhs.uk for graduates and undergraduates.
