NHS Direct and social enterprise win PCT out of hours health care contracts

NHS Direct and a social enterprise have won contract to provide out of hours health care to West Yorkshire PCTs

From April next year, patients will benefit from a single NHS Direct-run telephone number for West Yorkshire, offering advice, assessment and signposting for patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

A social enterprise, Local Care Direct, has been awarded the contract to provide face-to-face health care treatment out of hours. This includes evening or weekend GP home visits and evening and weekend GP appointments.

NHS coalition

Bradford and Airedale Teaching PCT, NHS Calderdale, NHS Leeds, NHS Kirklees and NHS Wakefield and District were the organisations involved in the coalition.

The changes were prompted by a review of urgent health care services across West Yorkshire following a consultation last year.
