NHS Maternity Direct service launched

  • Comment

An innovative service called Maternity Direct has just been launched in Essex, giving pregnant women direct access to a midwife as soon as they know they are pregnant.

Basildon University Hospital and NHS South West Essex launched the scheme to give women direct access to maternity services as an alternative to going to their GP first.

Community midwife manager Sue Grace said the service will lead to “earlier presentation for far more women than currently”.
