NICE to lead on new GP incentives

  • Comment

NICE is to oversee a new process for developing new performance indicators aimed at improving GP services in England.

The government has launched a consultation on the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), which provides financial incentives for GPs to offer certain services.

A new process developed by NICE will build on work carried out by the existing QOF expert panel and will ensure QOF keeps pace with up-to-date evidence of best practice.

The new process, to begin in April 2009, will focus on collecting information on potential new indicators, then developing and piloting them. The deadline for submissions to the consultation is 2 February.
