Sarah Waller, nurse and programme director at the King’s Fund, has been awarded a CBE for services to nursing and the NHS.

Ms Waller has led the think tank’s award-winning Enhancing the Healing Environment programme for the last eight years, which has helped improve conditions at over 130 NHS organisations across the UK.

Steve Dewar, King’s Fund director of funding and development, said: ‘We are delighted for Sarah and the recognition that this gives to her dedicated leadership.’

Other recipients in the new year’s honours list include Paul Beard, former chairperson of the Health and Social Care Advisory Service and RCN regional director for the South East. He receives an OBE, along with Professor Margaret Tucker, former dean of Cardiff University’s school of nursing and midwifery studies.
