Nursing directors have seen their pay rise by 4.3% over the past year, according to the latest NHS salary survey published by Capita Health Service Partners.

The median basic salary for trust directors of nursing in 2007–2008 was £83,808, compared with £80,333 in the previous year. The survey involved 72 nursing directors, who were questioned during January and February this year.

They remain on significantly lower basic salaries than medical directors, although the median medical director salary fell by 2% from £156,909 last year to £153,936 this year.

Chief executives of NHS trusts now earn a median total pay of £133,435, which is 5.5% higher than last year’s figure of £126,561.
