Nurse health to go under scrutiny

  • Comment
A major international study into the health of nurses is due to begin this month.

Occupational health researchers at the University of Cumbria will lead the UK component of the study, which will examine the health and working conditions of nurses.

The study will involve nurses in the US, Hong Kong, Korea, the Philippines and Australia.

It will follow about 4,000 nurses from each country through the early years of their careers to build a picture of how their health is affected by their working conditions.

‘The risks in nursing have been well documented,’ the researchers said.

‘There is a shortage of trained nurses across the globe, so better protecting those nurses who are currently working in the profession makes good sense,’ they added.
