Nurse-led clinics aid cancer care

  • Comment
Patients undergoing radiotherapy for head and neck cancers can be effectively managed in nurse-led clinics, a small UK study has found.

Over seven months, nurse researchers from Dundee University studied just over 40 patients having radiotherapy. Half were reviewed weekly by their consultant and the other half were seen at least once a week by a nurse specialist in a clinic.

The authors said patients in the nurse-led group had more psychosocial support, were given more information and had longer and more frequent consultations than those in the medical group.

The study is due to be published in a forthcoming issue of the Journal of Clinical Nursing.
