Nurses 'reduce inappropriate medication of older people'

  • Comment

The number of older people inappropriately prescribed medication while in nursing homes could be significantly reduced by nurses, according to a new study.

Swiss researchers found that the rate at which inappropriate medication was prescribed dropped from 14.5% to 2.8% following a nursing-led intervention programme that ran over the course of four months.

The study focused on a 204-bed inpatient nursing home in Bern, Switzerland that cared for people aged 60 and over.
