Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust has developed a secondment for nurses to work at associate director level for six months.

Those successful in securing placements are able to work on key trust wide projects and shadow board members.

Sandra Crawford was the first nurse to successfully complete the secondment in April 2007. It is now being undertaken by modern matron Mark Hipkiss until November 2007.

Ms Crawford said: 'The exposure to national organisations and the portfolio of work I gained from this secondment are so valuable to my career development.'

Mr Hipkiss added: 'Thinking about issues strategically has offered me a different perspective on nursing issues.'
