Nursing directors face judgement

  • Comment
Directors of nursing and other senior nurses at trusts judged as underperforming could find themselves replaced by colleagues from the independent sector, under latest government plans.

Minimum standards of quality, safety and financial management will be set and trusts failing to meet them will be identified as ‘challenged’, ministers said last week. Such trusts must then agree improvement plans with their strategic health authority, with expected time periods set for progress.

The NHS chief executive will oversee the changes, which could include replacing local management with a new team from other parts of the health service, foundation trusts or the independent sector, the government warned.
