TB Alert is aiming to boost nurses’ awareness and understanding of tuberculosis (TB).
It has launched a campaign to provide greater knowledge of the disease, which is on the rise with 8,000 new cases reported in England each year.
TB Alert chief Executive Michael Mandelbaum said: “Lack of awareness of TB could be undermining efforts to reduce the incidence of the disease in England.
“Awareness is vital in reducing the health and economic burden of TB. Many people aren’t sure about the symptoms, or think it’s a disease of the past, meaning critical warning signs can go unnoticed, cases go undetected - and treatment is received too late.”
