Online challenge helps nurses diagnose depression in older people

  • Comment

Nurses are being urged to take an online test that will help them to diagnose depression in older people more effectively.

The Take the Challenge website, run jointly by charities Help the Aged and Age Concern, tests users by asking them to spot signs of depression in older people through an interactive video. It then asks participants to identify possible barriers to diagnosis of depression among older patients.

So far more than 900 healthcare professionals have taken part in the challenge, but nurses are under-represented.

The two charities involved want greater nurse input both to improve their diagnostic skills, and also to feed in to a report the charities are producing later in the summer on healthcare professionals’ attitude towards depression in older people.
