What was it like?

This book offers a step by step approach to understanding your personal profile and gaining insight in to your strengths and drivers. The content is divided in to three parts, reflecting, collecting and doing. The process encourages the reader to consider the environment in which they live and work and possible steps to improve mental and physical potential. There are numerous questionnaires and interesting anecdotes included along the way to illustrate key points, enhance awareness and aide personal reflection. Throughout the book the reader is encouraged to ruminate their current position and what it would mean to live life with purpose. The book is well written and easy to read.

What were the highlights?

The writing style engages the reader to look inwardly, and offers positive encouragement to contemplate personal preferences and strengths as well as considering what generates the feeling of satisfaction in day to day activity. In addition to the varied quizzes and tools provided within the book there is an opportunity to complete an on-line personality assessment, which provides a personalised report.

Strengths & weaknesses:

The strengths of this book include the positive gentle tone of writing that encourages the reader to consider different aspects of their life. As well as the helpful exercises within the text, each chapter concludes with ‘tools of the session’, which helps the reader practically apply the content of the chapter. The author is an experienced psychologist and performance coach that adds to the credibility of the book.
