The forth in the series of children’s books set during World War 1 

What were the highlights?

Beautifully illustrated book which highlights the tale of a young girl following her friends to join the war effort. It allows today’s young readers an insight into life 100 years ago. 

Strengths & weaknesses:

It follows Lily through childhood and her dream of becoming a nurse. Her two childhood friends are enlisted to the battlefields of France and her decision to join them as a nurse on the frontline. She nurses one of her friends back to health, despite dreadful injuries and the story ends with the three friends returning home and a wedding.
