Overhaul of pre-reg nursing launched

  • Comment
The NMC has today launched a consultation on a major overhaul of pre-registration nurse training.

The ‘Review of Pre-Registration Nursing Education’ questions whether the profession should move towards a degree only profession, to what extent nurses should be generalists or specialists and what proportion of training should be conducted in the community.

It also asks whether the current branch based training structure should be scrapped.

The consultation is available via post and online and is open until 8 February 2008. The regulator will also be running a series of focus groups on the subject throughout the UK.

The consultation has been launched in conjunction with the Department of Health’s Modernising Nursing Careers consultation on the future of nursing careers.
