Pain specialists lack access to training

  • Comment
Less than half of UK pain nurse specialists (PNS) have a formal qualification in pain management, according to a small UK study

Of 100 PNS surveyed by Birmingham University researchers only 41% had the English National Board qualification in pain management or equivalent. Most received informal training from colleagues.
Although 80% said they were able to attend study days, less than a quarter received full funding from their employer.
The authors said the survey raised concerns over whether PNS were able to access the appropriate training.
