Parents of child with incurable illness launch online support forum

  • Comment
A free UK-based online discussion board has been launched for parents and families of children and teenagers who suffer from serious, incurable illnesses.

The Sophie Forums has been created by the parents of a life-limited child to help others in the same position.

When she was three months old, Neil and Annette Patmore discovered that their daughter Sophie has a rare mitochondrial disease that she is extremely unlikely to recover from.

While searching for information and resources relating to Sophie’s condition, it became apparent that there are various internet discussion boards which focus on specific types of condition, but there are no online support forums for parents and families of all children with life-limiting conditions within the UK.

Mr Patmore said: ‘We hope the forums will grow into a community where families can come for support, friendship and to seek advice. For this to be possible we need more registered members to be using the forums and adding posts/content along with us.’
