Patient Safety Congress: Prime minister praises contribution of nurses

  • Comment
Prime Minister Gordon Brown has personally thanked nurses for their commitment to the NHS.

Speaking to delegates at the NT Patient Safety Congress in London today, Mr Brown said it was because of their contribution to the service that the NHS was seen as the ‘pride of Britain’.

However, Mr Brown acknowledged that the NHS needed to move with the times and that keep pace with improvements in technology, an aging population and growing expectations.

Mr Brown said: ‘People know they will be living longer and know that the treatments are more sophisticated than they were in the past, and have greater expectations from what they get from the service.

‘And we will need to face up to the challenges of the future,’ he added.
