Platoon of modern matrons takes over Northumbria wards

Senior nurses are on the march at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, which has just almost doubled its modern matron workforce.

The trust has recruited 13 new matrons, bringing the total working across its three general hospitals and seven community hospitals to 28. This includes two new chief matrons Elaine Henderson and Julie Gillson (front row, second and third from right).

‘This means there is a dedicated person responsible for directing nurses in every ward and department across the trust,’ said trust director of nursing Rosemary Stephenson.

Hmm. Interesting to see that the platoon of matrons is all white and all female.
