Private treatment centres will be subject to NHS rules, says minister

  • Comment

Independent sector treatment centres (ITSCs) will supply services on the same basis as other NHS organisations, health minister Mike O’Brien has announced.

Contracts and services will be paid under the same terms and conditions as NHS providers starting in August 2009.

ISTCs are private-sector treatment centres that previously delivered elective procedures, outpatients and primary care on preferential terms to other NHS services.

New services will be advertised and purchased through a competitive bidding process where ISTCs will compete alongside other NHS service providers.
