RCN CONGRESS LATEST: Decisive action needed on student attrition

  • Comment
An emergency debate called for decisive action to reduce student attrition rates.

Proposed by Charlie Sloan, Association of Nursing Students executive member, it called for more help for students as they progressed through nursing courses.

‘Attrition is a serious problem,’ he said. ‘The demands on students have increased.’

Soaring petrol prices and energy bills were just some of the obstacles that students have to face, he told delegates.

Paula Hancock, University of Sheffield non-voting member, added: ‘Experience shows that if you support students and care for them, they succeed.’
