Why go to India is it not better to support euro neighbours struggling if home grown nurses cant be recruited. i.e Greece maybe?? A lot is to do with salaries I know after I wanted to return to practice after a short time out having had children I was offered a junior staff nurse grade despite having only 'held bleep' for department within previous 2 years and regularly in charge of ward. My hospital had unfortunately had to recruit to the Phillipines whilst I was away and hence there was no posts at senior staff nurse level. I ended up doing agency as did not see why I should take a poorly paid position despite unblemished record and continual hard work. There is no real willingness to retain and value staff. Hours inflexible for working parents and 12 hour shifts should not be imposed on staff that find they do not suit them. It is difficult to keep mentally alert sometimes on acute fast wards let alone the physical aspects !!!
